  • Acker Auction & Commanderie des Costes du Rhone (Zuma & Racines): Really quite a nice wine, but interesting to see the bottle variation. Poured by Acker. One bottle had a very messed up label. Other was mostly intact. Funnily enough the torn label bottle was significantly better - very bright. I had herbal goodness written in my notes. Nice tannins. The other one was a bit dull and flat. Funny how that works.

  • A bit funky to start which took 1-2 hours to blow off. When it did, it was quite nice. Not as clean or impressive as the 82 Giacosa Falletto Villero though.

  • Rustic, strawberry, dark fruit nose. Well balance, soft, round and elegant. Drinking very well now.

  • From a good looking bottle with a bottom neck fill, this wine had a deep red center and orange/yellow rims. This wine was rather funky and reduced for the first five hours. Afterward, the medium intensity nose showed cherries, brown spices, roses, some tobacco, and a touch of VA.

In the mouth, this wine was medium bodied with rounded tannin and excellent length. While it was not wildly complex, it was nicely balanced, fine grained, and drinking well.

While this wine will last for many years, I would advise drinking this sooner rather than latter.

  • Back at my new favorite place the Bern's of Italian wines. I didn't know what to expect given this was "just" the regular Barbaresco bottling, but decided to give it a shot. This blew my mind as we decanted and drank it over 4 hours. Beautifully mature nose of dark fruit, tar, earth, mushroom and dried roses. The palate was round and full in the mouth with wonderful balance and symmetry. The tannins are fully resolved and the fruit and tertiary nuances are stunning on the long, delicious finish. I loved this and fortunately the restaurant was kind enough to let me take another bottle home. I can't wait to have this again.

(Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco) All about the nose on this one. First it smelled like laundry detergent then dried strawberries, dried apricots, pine, chestnuts and dried cherries. Amazing bouquet. Fully mature. Palate was OK. Not great. Supple and elegant with nice fruit. Falls off on the finish . . .but ohh that nose.
