Nose of leather, tobacco and cherry. Palate is fairly reflective of the nose with cherries, spice and leather. Overall, it is much like a well aged Bordeaux. Very enjoyable.

Deep Ruby with black and crimson highlights, barely transparent. On the nose, this is modern displaying oak, spice, dark red berries, and tobacco. This is medium full bodied on the palate, with a lot of dark red fruits, tobacco, and oak. This finishes with good length and medium acidity, but the oak tannins are a bit drying.

Has some of the sweet cherry character of good rioja. Also shows its oak, of course, but a integrated supple way. As a side not it does not make an especially good rejoiner after tasting a bunch of very fresh white burgundy. Now, if the salesperson could explain why this is known as the Cuvee Especial that would help me out quite a bit. I still believe in the price -- $30, but the question is what is the wine.

Very nice pop and pour thru vinturi. Paired very well with spicy red sauce cioppino. For this price would buy again.
