Dim Sum Club at Imperial Treasure Teochew (Imperial Treasure Teochew, Ion): Not bad. Hard to believe I last had this 12 years back. It has certainly developed, but I am not sure it has really improved all that much. The nose was a lot more tertiary, with earth, sous bois notes, some meat, and then a linger of red fruit, spice and mineral. A rather funky, very masculine bouquet. The palate seems to have tightened and clenched up over the years, showing cool but reserved flavours of black cherries and dark berries, again seasoned with a dash or spice, bramble and a little mineral at the finish. I liked the bright 2001 freshness to this, and there was a certain sinewy power to it, but this was a bit stingy at points - hard to figure out whether it was tired, or just tight, especially given that it was opened many hours before serving. Overall, not bad, but not great.

Much more vibrant than the Latricieres Chambertin from the same producer and same vintage that I had the week before, but yet this was not as enjoyable and didn't seem to have the same complexity. Maybe it was because this was far more primary and still feeling very youthful, albeit there are some nice red fruits to enjoy.
Would be interesting to try again in a couple of years, but in terms of drinking now, I prefer my wines with just a touch more secondary and mature notes.
Drink 2020-2030

Decanted an hour before serving. This wine was a disappointment, being somewhat hard and joyless. Fruit was not there - perhaps over the hill? Certainly did not live up to expectations.

Opened and served and consumed within 30 minutes so not much observation with respect to development. The wine is definitely of quality, well made, nice red fruit, light smoky and with dark side too. Drinks very well now albeit it is more of premier cru than grand cru. Still a very good wine and worthy of its 60£ tag. 91 and good life ahead
