  • My last bottle of this, and fortunately it was correct. Decanted for sediment (lots of it). This wine was ready to go on opening. It smelled of leather and red fruit, which carried through to the palate. Tart raspberry, tobacco leaf, and rhubarb on the palate.

After about two hours open, the tertiary notes dominated. While not over the hill, I think this wine should be opened in the near term.

  • Lots of VA on this bottle. Persistent nail polish remover on the nose.

  • This was lovely from the jump (I popped & poured) -- red-fruited, and a bit of earthiness on the nose with cherry, cranberry, and rhubarb on the palate. 13.7% alcohol and at no point felt ponderous. I think I preferred this bottle to the Bates I had a couple months ago, but I'll have to try them side-by-side to be certain.

  • Big time red fruit. Pomegranates, dark cherries, and cranberries. The palate was really nice. Super red fruit, but with a featherly lightness that was lovely. In addition to the red fruit, it had beautiful airy floral notes. Just a sexy CA Cabernet.

  • This was very different than anything else on the table. All red fruits and all brightly lit. Red cherry was the forefront. The tannins were loosely knit and a moderately to high acid level. I though it had a mouthfeel of a better than average Merlot. This was a bit spicy in the midpalate. Hmmm?
Not my style of Cabernet, but I can understand why some would like it.(my score reflects such)
