Community Tasting Notes (average 89.3 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 22 notes)

Tasted by Serge Birbrair on 1/11/2010: For $26 I can drink this one all day long. Very decent Chianti. (262 views)
Tasted by fredb on 11/14/2009: Deep red color. Aromas of sweet red currant, plum, and roses. On the palate, a hint of dust, but framed by very fine tannins. Middle palate fruit is reserved and this seems more closed down than a bottle a month ago. A smooth, easy drink, but decanting recommended if consuming now. Hold. (334 views)
Tasted by fredb on 10/15/2009: Deep ruby/crimson color. Aromas of roses, plum, dust, red currant, and a hint of smoke. On the palate, this is velvety, with very fine tannins framing a core of red plum, red currant, and red berry. Dusty notes emerge, but the dominant characteristic on the finish is the fine tannins, which have not fully resolved. This is really fine stuff and has the dust without the dirt (that's good). Excellent Chianti Classico. Felsina is one of my go-to Tuscan producers and this is a great example of why. (452 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 10/14/2009: This is really good Chianti. (475 views)
Tasted by Rechrom on 8/17/2009 & rated 90 points: Derinking well now, good depth, should last a few years. (598 views)
Tasted by MRichman on 7/13/2009: Very nice, firm wine. Drinking well and would improve for several years. (741 views)
Tasted by rnellans on 6/21/2009 & rated 89 points: Nice floral, tar and spicy aromas. Nice structure. Dusty tannins. Opened up very nice on the nose on the second day. Palate lacks a bit in the fruit, but overall a very nice chianti for the money. (773 views)
Tasted by Finare Vinare on 5/29/2009 & rated 89 points: Lovely with pizza! (1105 views)

Tasted by Finare Vinare on 5/18/2009 & rated 88 points: (759 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 5/12/2009: A pure fruit heading towards tomato (!?). Elegant, refine Chianti. Structured. Maybe I am just having a very burgundian day but this comes across as very Burgundian to me. Pretty good at $30. Purity epxresses my feelings best. (962 views)
Tasted by ikileo on 4/26/2009: World Gourmet Summit: Chianti Classico Wine Fair (St Regis, Singapore): Nose: Pleasant very floral nose with some grapefruit peel
Taste: Basic, well made Chianti Classico with some slight toffee (1011 views)
Tasted by wdb001 on 4/1/2009 & rated 89 points: Popped and poured. Probably could have used an hour or so in the decanter. Nice Chianti. Plum and blackberry notes. Not overly complex or deep, but a very pleasant wine. (1108 views)
Tasted by BYOB on 2/6/2009 & rated 90 points: Rich dark plum and cherry fruit offset by delicate oak. Dark ruby red in color, this medium bodied red is great with pizza or red sauce pastas, or on its own. Thanks for the tip jwobbk. (1219 views)
Tasted by Zabo on 11/16/2008 & rated 91 points: (977 views)
Tasted by RoundersRob on 10/29/2008 & rated 88 points: The nose trumps the flavors on this wine with nice plum and blackberry notes mixed with a toasty oak element. Everything is in place for a great wine down the road as the flavors were very slow to come together and I think that this would have benefited greatly from a couple of hours in the decanter. Matched well with simple Italian sausage pizza. I am going to try to locate a bottle of the 04 as I think that would be quite stellar right now. (1388 views)
Tasted by Rechrom on 10/9/2008 & rated 89 points: Very nice, straightforward Chianti. Good length, clean entry, nice nose, a great wine to drink with pasta or with a ballgame. (1316 views)
Tasted by Jwobkk on 9/7/2008 & rated 90 points: Beautiful ruby red in color, attractive nose - on the palate much richer and more structured than the normale, very smooth with taste of sour cherry and some tobacco. Nice finish with some length. The normale is easier drinking right now but this is far more serious. I need to thank AG for turning me on to Felsina. Great new find for jwobkk. (1372 views)
Tasted by Kdawg on 8/15/2008 & rated 89 points: tasting italiano: nose: silky nose of earth tones, plum, cherries, smoke, and bits of floral scents. nice and perfumed

taste: tart and firm with cherry, smoke, plums, and floral flavors working well in balance with each other

overall: an excellent chianti with some nice upside. Well placed tannins and acidty that lend a helping hand with a cherry attack and smokey and plum based finish (1420 views)
Tasted by Spencer on 8/6/2008 & rated 91 points: Balanced, lively, complex. Essence of sangiovese. Drinking great now, but should age well. (1466 views)

About red wine
SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-veh-zeh"). Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
