  We decanted for over 2.5 hrs before trying and drank it along side a 2008 freemark abbey Howell mountain merlot.
  This wine was great, but my expectations were slightly let down.
  The fruit tasted a little older than I was expecting, I think it is slightly over the hill
  There was mostly leather, licorice, and stewed or dried fruit.. I expected a little more depth.., but the fruit tasted older than I thought it was going to. (I’ve tried older version’s recently like the 90 & 92)
  Acidity was medium and the tannins were well integrated. Still mostly purple in color w not much bricking toward edges (so maybe improper storage if I’m getting mostly cooked fruit) I got the btl off an auction site..
  It was better than the freemark..

  It's hard to believe that this wine was 22 years old. It was so fresh! The tannins had certainly resolved, and the resulting wine was pure pleasure. Lovely fruits on the palate - blueberry compote, strawberry, plums, and some sort of spice mix all came to mind.
  
  Popped and poured, then drank over two days. The wine didn't seem to need much air to start strutting its stuff. It also didn't appear to change much from one day to the next. I bet it's got at least another decade ahead.
