PNP. Pristine cork, moderate sediment. Accidentally bought these at auction thinking it was the Cabernet. Apparently this is a fairly rare bottling of merlot. Flavors of nicely aged claret, red fruit, bit of roasted tomato, more savory. Silky tannins, enough acidity, medium body. 13.5% ABV. Still has life, but time to drink up.

I opened this for Mother's Day dinner 2010 to serve with lobster and filet that I bar-b-que'd and it was lovely. Still a nice dark red, a bit of a purple hue and lovely black fruit on the nose. Blackberry, dark cherry, a bit of forest floor and mineral and a medium finish. If you are lucky enough to have some of this wine from the only year Ch Montelena bottled a merlot, I suggest you drink it soon. It did get a bit tired after a couple of hours, but we enjoyed it immensely and bought some more when we were at CM recently.

Wonderful bright cherry, raspberry and french oak flavors with hints of earth and eucalyptus. Med-light body with nice acidity and well-integrated tannins. Very enjoyable wine. Drank while watching the movie "Bottle Shock", so maybe that had something to do with it.
