  • My last bottle of this wine, bought many years ago on sale. Even though Katnook suggested a 8-12 year lifespan, after 19 years it is still going strong, though likely at plateau. Classic Coonawarra cabernet nose, with ripe blackfruit and oak notes. The medium to full bodied palate is quite smooth, with few remaining tannins. There is still a healthy concentration of fruit, again almost all blackfruits with the oak still giving off tar, vanilla and leather notes; no green notes at all. Not the most complex wine, but still a tasty, old school cabernet. I'd drink up fairly soon (A-).

  • Deep garnet with brick edges. Layered nose with earthiness, cherries, forest floor, a touch dirty and a bit of dry sweet spices. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium plus bodied. Quite surprised with the power this still has, needed an hour or two in the glass to open up. Solid acidity with some aged complexity on the palate. Layers of earthiness, dried red cherries, red currants, dried herbs, damp leaves, a little musty and tobacco leaves. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2020.

  • This bottle had been open for several hours, and the nose seemed very advanced, with notes of tomato and yellowed paper. The palate was a lot livelier, with perky flavours of pomegranate and cherry tomato alongside hints of musty books and cider vinegar.

  • Medium ruby in colour, aromas of dark fruit and vanilla. Medium to Full bodied with plenty of heavy ripe, rich fruit which coats the mouth. Definitely not elegant in style but more of a powerhouse. Big finish of savoury, silky tannins. Enjoyable now with a decent decant and a BBQ beast of some description, but has the legs to go for a few more years yet. Will drink the rest of my bottles over the next 5 or so years.

  • Tasted this wine at Katnook Cabernet Masterclass by Wayne Stehbens.

This wine has a pleasant nose, with sediments showing. Sweetness follows on the palate, and the renowned "chocolate mint" from Katnook Estate is evident in this wine. Finish is long and bitter sweet.

This wine is not the best of the lot, but good enough for me.
