Bill's Monthly Lunch - November 2012 (Vancouver, BC): Tasted blind – very dark colour. Dense nose, extracted dark fruits, black licorice and traces of green/dill. Loads on density and concentration on the palate but not over the top. Excellent acidity with dry tannins and a noticeably dry finish with notes of chocolate coming through. A heavy and somewhat modern wine. A good showing but atypical for this wine from what others at the table said. I, incorrectly, thought this might be syrah. Drinking well. Very good.
Wow, this was even better than the first bottle. Quite ripe, rich and full, but not OTT. Really a wonderful blast of flavours, almost syrah-like in its opulence and power. Modern, but still recognizable as Italian. Great QPR here. Can't wait to buy some of the 2004 (A-).
A very deep ruby/purple in color, the nose is full of herbs, oak (tar notes) and blackfruits. Real power here. Great concentration in the velvety, rich palate too, with more blackfruits, oak notes, herbs, earth, bitter chocolate and black licorice. A pretty modern, big bruiser of a wine here, but bloody tasty. Good finish too. Enough tannins on the finish to encourage 3-5 more years aging (A-)!
