This wine is simply amazing! Beautiful Amber color and fresh nose defying its age! Bright great minerality with white fruits and the perfect balance of acidity and a hint of honeyed pineapple on the finish. Perfect with poached halibut! Alas, my last bottle😔, which I had more because this wine will last for many more years!
HDH auction tasting at Tru (Chicago, IL): Nose of wet fur and matchstick (somewhat reminiscent of young Pruem). Initially, this was completely disgusting: vapid and tasteless. After half an hour in the glass, this has blossomed into something that isn't too sweet but held together by a racy golden apple acidity. A very fruity finish tinged with pineapple. Quite delicious, but I can't personally get past the somewhat weird nose.
Mature Burgundy @ Medlar (Upstairs) (The Medlar, London): Light gold. A touch of botrytis on the nose and lots of bruised apple. Sweet attack but stunning acidity that takes over and rather dominates. Just about works with the cheese, but this could do with a bit more sugar. Good though, and certainly refreshing. ***1/2
