  • This is a beautiful wine right now.
Still vibrant and balanced. Smooth is the key word for this wine as all of the different grapes seem perfect. Soft fruit extract on the nose.
Vibrant fruit lingers on the tongue finishing with a hint of licorice. Near perfect drink.

  • I'm perhaps a little too kind with my score, out of long-established fondness for Chateau St. Jean, a well-regarded, even stellar producer in my formative wine-drinking years. The bottle was sound and tasty, the texture much in common with an overripe chateauneuf-du-pape, the brooding flavor profile reminiscent of mission figs. I rather enjoyed it, nevertheless. This might be the perfect wine to save for Halloween, to share with a witch leaving her home in the Black Forest for an evening out.

  • Lithe and beautifully balanced. Served with rosemary grilled loin lamb chops.
Had this at our wedding twenty years ago - still a wonderful wine. Only the short finish kept it from being more memorable.

  • Tasted double blind. This shows dark fruits like blackberry and cassis, along with a serious mint/herbal/green/Eucalyptus. The palate starts cool with the dark fruits and minty/herbal. With a bit of time it starts to heat up and lose a bit of focus - in particular the finish shows some heat and a verges on a port-like thing but not quite. I guessed new world, cabernet-based, probably CA, from the late 80's to the 90's. With time, this got more hot and less pleasurable, but the new pours, with less air, were pretty good. This is smooth and mostly seamless, enjoyable and went well with the steak. Just poured: 15.5/20, after some time in the glass, more like a 14/20. Split the difference.
