Top 1ers for AK's birthday: My contribution. Glad it showed much better than the previous time I had this, so fresh that a few guessed 2017-19! Sensual, beguiling nose that showed the magic of Gerard Potel. Silky, seamless palate with refined tea-like tannins that led most to guess CdN. As good as the bottle that went head-to-head with Rousseau last year; unfortunately now I am down to my last bottle.

Gwen's belated birthday: Popped and corked back at lunch for dinner. Not as good as my previous experience which was spellbinding. Chinese tea notes on opening that didn’t ever quite go away, still had the ethereal nature that I loved the last time but not the same energy. Some discussion on whether this was mildly corked with a hint of cardboard notes that came and went, and the muted fruit.

This bottle couldn’t match the one we had last year. Initially with extremely high acidity to make it slightly out of balance, it did improve over the two hours on the palate. Nose was not entirely clean too but not distracting enough to be a turn off.

Wine of the tasting for me with the Rousseau Ruchottes. Personally prefer this one as the aftertaste had a tad bit of sweetness that I prefer vs the Rousseau which was more savory. This wine is hitting way above its plot and terroir. This wine kind of proves that Burgundy is really about the winemaker/producer than the plot.

Beat the 96 Rousseau Ruchottes: Blind. Muted at first but blossom in the glass. Great freshness, some liquorice and fine tannins with a long bitter finish
