Domestic Cab dinner (Eddie V's): Tastes very cultish cab, intense blue fruits, crème de cassis, blueberry jam, incense, sweet spices, ink and mocha. Exceptional concentration, round and silky, cool intense blue fruit driven palate impression, nicely integrated tannins and lovely seamless long finish. Great showing, very polished yet intense.
Dinner with Johnny and Chris (Whisk (Chicago, IL)): I was lucky enough to have been saved a taste from Johnny and Chris' dinner at RPM Steak the night before. Thanks guys - really. Stunning array of aromas. From dark black cherry, elegant soy and hoisen as well as exotic Asian spice, baking spices, deep dark purple flowers. Fantastic. The palate is robust and rich. I could tell it had been open for a while, but there was still plenty of life in the finish. Gorgeous fruit, earth and spice. Long finish. Extremely well made. Schrader literally always delivers.
John brought this out to RPM Steak. California powerhouse that is firing on all cylinders. Expressive nose that provides hints of great things to follow. Silky with massive layers of dark fruit, a touch if cedar. Lingering finish, overall a fantastic wine.
massive layers of fruit, seamless and well done, tannins still strong but softened with food. good acidity to round it out. this can last another ten years in the bottle easily and probably still be fantastic as the fruit is so strong in it. oak is there but in harmony. drinking window here will be long. very californian and very enjoyable.
Wine Dinner at Collyer Catering In Westport, CT. (Collyer Catering): My first time having a Schrader. Decanted 3 hours before drinking. Tasted a little out of the decanter and I was a little worried. Tasted a tad harsh to me. It smoothed out with some time though. Big nose of black currant, blackberry, pepper, vanilla and black cherry. Very big full bodied wine with flavors of vanilla, blackberry, currant and smoke. Got better as the night went on. Finish just sailed on and on for at least 50 seconds. Simply excellent.
