Annual Pilgrimage to Chateau Lanessan; 5/23/2014-5/25/2014 (Chateau Lanessan, Bordeaux): Directly from the private cellar of the chateau, original cork with vintage clearly showing. Solid cork. Decanting is needed here, more than the other 50s but maybe 30-40 minutes. Once again this is a fragile wine so long decant over oxidises it. Much like the 55 it had a healthy solid core of fruit, well round , still with life and vibrancy in it. Such a joy at this age. 91-2
Clean rubber and iodine notes. Fruit flavors are faded, but still surprisingly present. This has held up very well for a bottle of this age, not to mention one from a non premium chateau. One person speculated it was a potential fake, but this isn't a bottle worth faking.
Saturdays at One - Volume 32: Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout with no sign of bricking. Nose of rubber tire, iron and leather. Flavors of tart berries and cherries with a hint of iron on the finish. Medium acidity, resolved tannins, medium body. Drink now. This bottle was past prime but still surprisingly well..
