I was more than surprised to find this wine showing so well. It tasted at least 10-20 years younger than I had expected. With a floral, cherry blossom, truffle and cigar store aromatic profile, the soft, silky wine displayed a purity of sweet cherry fruit in its finish. With wines this old, it can go either way, but this fortunately turned out to be a fine example of a fully mature St. Emilion.

Great Older Wines at the Place to Drink Great Older Wines (Tampa FL): Good color, good looking bottle. Started with good fruit but came across as slightly dirty to me, and not the more pleasant barnyard notes. I liked this at first, but much less so after 20 minutes in glass. Others enjoyed this wine far more than I did.

I bought this in a lot at auction and knew it would be a crap shoot. However, much to my surprise when the sommelier pulled the cork out in one piece and the color was a deep ruby, I knew we had something. There were notes of lead pencil shavings and truffle. Definitely a musky wine that showed its age upfront. It was pleasing on the pallet, and the highlight of the wine was when paired with an Uni panna cotta. The salt in the uni just cause the notes in the wine to explode and that one sip made it all worth it. If you have one, drink it now. She isn't getting any younger. The fill on mine was mid-high shoulder.

So sad; mid-low shoulder, oxidized. At least the sommelier didn't argue.

Moderate browning. Orange garnet. Tertiary with tar notes. Lacks a bit in the middle...not a great 49, but a real pleasure to drink.
