  • 2011 DRC and a range of others: Served blind. Cinnamon and orange, pineapple lollies and some caramel reflecting the age. At first it is a bit shy, but with air it really comes together. Richness on the palate is present and there is drive from the acidity. Shows its full age and should be drunk now, but a really interesting experience.

  • Cork was soaked and split in 2. Deep golden hue. Initial impressions were not encouraging - a dusty, almost maderised aroma. But underneath, there was some life here. With time in the glass, it did open out a little more, offering cumquat, apricot and honey flavours. There were still acids present which kept the width of the palate in check. It was a reasonable experience with what is a 48 year old.
