  • Decanted for 1.5 hours. Deep garnet-red. This wine pops with an enticing array of scents: blackheart cherries, prunes, stewed fruit, leather, dried spice and herbs, rose petals, notes of roasted coffee beans, mocha, humid soil and tar. This is surprisingly beautiful. Bold, full-bodied and somewhat polished at the same time, with grippy but ripe tannins and good acidity to match its power. Slight hot finish at 14.5 abv. The wine's finish does not quite live up to what I thought to encounter with nose and palate, falling off a tad too short. Still, I'm liking this wine and despite the difficult vintage, this has turned out rather good. As I see it, there is also still plenty of life in this.

  • Italian Trio - Matteo Correggia, Cavallotto & Bruno Rocca (Pizzeria Mozza @ MBS): Alcohol :: 14.5%
2003 is an irregular year (too hot) in Italy and I thought this special Cuvee is suffered in this vintage too. Bright ruby red. Sweet cherries in the core with floral, tar, earth as well as light burned rubber note. Medium bodied, this has good acidity at the entry with secondary nuances of earth, plum, leather and earth. Well delineated but a tad soft on the mid palate and lacks a bit of length at the finished, a bit of heat too.

  • Great stuff. And holding up to next day in decanter

  • Opened in the morning, had a glass with dinner, and finished the bottle after the kids went to bed. A nice young barolo. Heady aromas of tar and berries. Lots of red fruit on the palate, including cranberries, a bit tart with acid. Tannins are approachable, and add a coffee note on the moderate finish. This should improve with bottle time, but does not seem to have the spine to go very deep. I will probably look for a few bottles at a good price for near to mid term drinking.

  • Robert Houde Wines Portfolio feat. Marc De Grazia selections (Ritz-Carlton, Chicago IL): nose: robust and larger nose of roasted herbs, dark red cherries, spices, tar and some bits of red berries. great depth with a purity to it as well

taste: beautiful medium feel with firm tannins and medium+ acidity along with deep tones of roasted herbs, dark red cherries, spices, and bits of fresh berries

overall: while this shows the 03 influence, it doesn't posses the big ripeness nor some of the harder tannins from the vintage. This should be a very interesting and great barolo with some more age on it
