  • Eighty-eight percent Zinfandel with 3% Petite Sirah, 7% Alicante Bouschet and 2% Carignane. The color is deeply hued but not as dark as the Geyeserville (which was the first bottle with dinner). On the nose, Zin funk, plum and maybe a bit of cherry. Gone is the brown sugar of its youth. Rhubarb continues to express itself. Nothing different in the mid-palate which is short, but the finish eventually takes on some bitter chocolate. The mouthfeel is powerful. A heavy shadow of sediment lines the back of the bottle where it rested as some grains begin to line the front as it was poured. 14.8% alc. With balsamic marinated grilled pork chops. 11.05.22. Recommended.

  • Acquired this bottle 9 years ago and it was in a time capsule far away from my grasp ever since. It is really the only way that this one survived so long because I opened it within a month of relocating it. This Ridge Pagani Ranch was surprising. I already had a backup picked out, and I think that it was probably one of the better wines of the day for me. Only bottle of this, so I cannot comment to how it was before now. After cork pop, this smelled like a dog that had just rolled around in manure and B.O. Yeah, VERY appetizing. But, poured a sample anyway and the palate resembled the nose just about 0%. The fruit on this was mature, dense, almost seemed to have a purple fruit quality about it. Good acidity from front to finish on this 15 year zinfandel. The rounded finish was a noteworthy part of the wine. No jagged edges here. Purple fruits, truffle, prunes and dates. There was some red fruit character, but actually I was getting more prunes and purple fruits more than anything with some very nice aromatic truffle character and even some espresso beans in here too. Shocked at the structure of this wine. Upon initial cork pop if I didn't have the guts to try it and poured it down the drain first, I never would have known it. After 1 hour, the nose resembled the palate. Regarding the future of this one, I really don't know what to tell you. This one has aged nicely, no fault really of my own. My opinion is that this one is definitely heading down the hill, but in slow fashion. If you have these, start drinking on 'em. You'll be a little surprised I think at how it is drinking now.

  • This Pagani is a blend of 88% Zin and 7% Alicante Bouschet, 2% Carignane and 3% Petite Sirah. Bricking is apparent at the rim while the core is a deep maroon. Cinnamon, bramble berry and Zin funk dominate the nose, but roasted tomato and molasses make a showing as well. A bit of blackberry on the attack along with cinnamon. The other aspects of the nose appear on the palate. The finish is Zin funk and coffee. The tannins are fully integrated and the wine very much has a claret feel to it. These are definitely ready to drink. 14.8% alc. With grilled London broil and charred shishito peppers. Recommended.

  • This Pagani is a blend of 88% Zin and 7% Alicante Bouschet, 2% Carignane and 3% Petite Sirah. Very much as it was in February of this year when I wrote, “Burgundy on the rim, but an opaque, blood red dominates the broad core. The bouquet is richly fruited with blackberry. Zin funk, rhubarb and coffee. Despite the rich fruit the nose still seems a bit muted.” While bouquet is rich, it is not as rich as the ‘07 Ridge Paso Robles Zin we also opened for the meal. This is a very different wine from the Paso Robles Zin showing less development and less depth. 14.8% alc. With Rodney Young, Mandi Smith and DDB over smoked beef brisket. Recommended.

The bouquet is richly fruited with blackberry. Zin funk, rhubarb and coffee. Despite the rich fruit the nose still seems a bit muted. Nevertheless, the richness of the bouquet carried over to the palate with an intenseness that married well with the brined black olives. And not bad with Kalmata olives. Balanced and rich, but I suspect it will light up with a tad bit more age. 14.8% alc. With cheeses of a blue rind cream and a Stichelton along with brinded black and kalamata olives. Recommended.
