Beautiful mature ruby. Ummmm...pure secondary Pinot aroma. Just the way to kick off the new year. Both fruit and earth in perfect balance. Sweet fruit is the feature of the lovely attack. The finish is nice but a bit rough. Rustic for sure, but has some lovely qualities. I like this a lot - more than the score - as I think the aroma is mezmorizing. (91)

10 Wines, 10 Varietals, Double Blind ("Chateau La Grange" - La Grange IL): Double blind tasting. Lots of spice on nose. Big fruit with lots of tannic structure. Some hesitation the fruit will outlive the structure, but think it will develop into something charming when more secondary. Also thought this was Pinot Noir, but thought it much younger than 1991 (1995?). I liked this better than most of the group tonight.

Wineflock - Varietal Exploration (Jim's): Group #8, My #9 - Pale crimson color. Dusty nose of black fruit with clove, cumin, and acidic notes - odd. Sour canned bitter red fruit on the palate. Some life left here, but nothing very interesting.

Just too old. Drinkable, just not very nice.
