Perhaps the most power-packed Burlotto wine I've encountered, which is surely a function of the vineyard and vintage. Having said that, this is reasonably approachable already which surely has something to do with the more elegant house style. Excellent, but 5-10+ years from peak drinking.

Nebbiolos, white truffles, Volume VIII (Chicago, IL): Very dense in the context of the other Burlotto wines, and the lack of stem inclusion makes for a very, very different wine. Darker and earthy, but with some of the same lightness that Burlotto is renowned for. Youthful, leathery tannins, and still a bit chewy at this point. Denser than I would expect for a 2004 as well.

Piemonte Wimps (La Trompette): On the nose, forest floor, just a hint of complexity. Very clean palate - clearly barolo but more resolved, more ready to share its pleasures than the previous bottle. On swirling around the mouth this really came into focus - a wine definitely worthy of contemplation - certainly one could imagine drinking this slowly over the course of a few hours and enjoying seeing its progress.

Decanted four hours, Zalto burgundy glass. First taste was very friendly with polished tannins, mature mellow aromas and a sense of calm. With dinner it was a bit warmer and less mellow while it gave an impression of being lighter; less intense than the more recent Monviglieros. Fine mature Barolo with plenty of time yet.

Similar to the 2/3/21 bottle and the WOTN.
