Popped and tasted and there was clearly a lot to appreciate right away but decanted for about 90 minutes before serving with a meal of grilled lamb and potatoes. The first thing to point out is how long and consistent the wine is on the palate. It doesn't dissipate for close to 2 minutes. No unwelcome stewed fruits or other flavors typical of central coast "hot" wines. The booze is still there, but more as a vehicle for the mature acids, soils, and fruits. As I taste again and again I keep going back and increasing the score. One of the very best Syrahs that I've drunk (I've tasted good ones but not the very best, IMHO). A bit of junk in the bottle, so decant carefully.

Barnyard, band aid nose. Firm grip in the mouth, winter spices dark berry fruit. However, this is scorchingly alcoholic making it difficult to appreciate.

shows some earthy, barnyard on the nose at first glance. palate isn't nearly as earthy as the nose suggests. shows some mossy/green leaf to the palate. great old world interpretation with the barnyardiness. medicinal red fruit. not earth shattering, but really in the wheelhouse. Tasting much better than the previous three tasters noted.

Black and blue fruit dominate. High alcohol on the nose and palate distract, but still good with roasted chicken. Round, medium finish.

Blue fruit, plum and vanilla on the nose. Blueberry, black cherry on the palate. Fruit forward and flabby. Good.
