  • Cork was completely dead (and I stored this poorly for a few years) but held up extremely well. Gorgeous golden color, starting to get a bit of honey on the nose. Lots of complexity on the palette.

  • Popped and poured. Notes from memory. Medium yellow. Ripe orchard fruit and a mineral note on bouquet. On the palate this came across as drier and perhaps a bit less focused than my previous bottles of this. Could have been a temperature issue as this came directly out of the cellar. Not flabby, just not the same crystalline intensity and zing I remember.

Still, absolutely lovely Riesling and paired very well with a snack of late night spring rolls with sweet chili sauce after a film with friends.

  • This was absolutely singing. Rich and deep on the nose and palate, as waxy orchard fruit, spiced tangerine, honeysuckle blossom, dried herbs, and sea spray mingle and continually emerge. Medium to full bodied, with outstanding complexity and depth, as well as vivid orange citrus acidity and wet slate minerals on the lengthy finish. A superb, powerful, and wonderfully balanced example of riesling. Drink or hold.

  • Opened an hour prior, served quite cold. Notes from memory but this was superb. Intense bouquet with a complex amalgam of tropical and orchard fruits, then a brisk attack rapidly filling out to a riot of different exotic fruits held in check with riveting acidity.

Residual sweetness apparent but very much in balance. This may be a bit OTT for some but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Needs to be served quite cool and allowed to warm in the glass. Works very well en apperitif but I could also see this pairing with a Thai curry.

  • Ripe, juicy unctuous. Smaragd fruit to the max. A bit boozy, but enough crispness to match well with food, and potentiate future aging.

(STEINERTAL FX Pichler Riesling) FX 2007

    Dear Friends,

Due to limited quantities - I'm not going to say much here.

2007 is the best vintage in Austria since 1999 and the 2006s at the high must level are among the best ever made. The Unendlich is pretty much the toughest wine to get in Austria and the TBA is not far behind.

Only half of the normal amount coming to the US this year (of the 2007s).

All are EXTREMELY LIMITED (we have bottles, not cases):

2007 FX Pichler/Krutzler Gruner Veltliner Klostersatz
New wine, previously unavailable in the US - could be very interesting especially due to the vintage. Mid-priced Pichler? This may interest a few of you...

2007 FX Pichler Riesling Urgestein Federspiel

2007 FX Pichler Riesling Steinertal Smaragd

2007 FX Pichler Riesling Loibnerberg Smaragd

2006 FX Pichler Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA) Kellerberg (375ml)
Insane wine - only 7.5-8.0% alcohol

2006 FX Pichler Riesling Smaragd "Unendlich" (500ml)
(18 bottles for the entire US - not kidding)

    Thank you,

    Jon Rimmerman
