Dark red color, translucent. Not much on the nose. Sharp strawberry fruit, bit hot on the palate (14.3% ABV). Sharp tannins, good acidity, fair balance. Finishes short, green and hot. Well past prime.

Color unchanged: crushed blueberries. Bouquet and Palate: Blueberry, cola, teaberry, cloves and cinnamon. Faded fruit. Out of balance: Yes, still, but not as strikingly harsh. Odd finish: graham cracker and vanilla. 14.3% alc. With stichelton and other cheeses, brined black olives and kalamata olives. 03.03.17 Recommended.

The is the first time in 5 years I’ve opened this bottling of Loring. Much like when last opened n 2009, this wine is still the color of crushed blueberries, but at the very rim the color is clear. Blueberry presents on the nose but is healthily mixed with teaberry, rosemary and cinnamon. The nose also smells “hot” with alcohol being sharp in the nostrils. In ‘09, the heat was such a distraction that the wine rated “Recommended with Reservations” and the nose this time inclined me to move in that direction. But on the palate, the heat is still a distraction, but not heavy or hot. Yes, the wine is a tad out of balance, but not like it once was. All the elements of the nose appear on the palate, but with elements os graham cracker and vanilla on the finish. Another year or two and this wine may show even better. 14.3% alc. With pancetta wrapped pork tenderloins under red wine sauce. 10.04.14. Recommended.

Three and a half years after the prior note, this has round a bit into a dark rich albeit somewhat dusty offering of cherry and ripe strawberry. Very well balanced, alcohol well covered, and persistent.

Yummy with fresh red salmon over a tossed salad.
