This was surely over the top and sweetly fruity when released, but with age I'm having big trouble not loving this! Nose is dominated by buttery aromas of popcorn, butterscotch and vanilla yoghurt. Everything pointing at a fairly heavy malo-lactic fermentation. Behind this there is a still a lot of blackcurrants, light vanilla, barnyard and cedar pencil. Mature palate with very smooth and round tannins, sweetish but aged fruitiness. Nevertheless the wine has a dry and fresh feeling to it. Really good intensity and length. Can't not like this!
Great balance and light tannins after being opened for approx. 2 hrs. Deep ruby color. Nose consisted of cherry notes and light toast. Greatly added to a wonderful Christmas dinner of rib roast, peas w/ leeks and roasted red skin potatoes.
