Good to drink now, but will age effortlessly. Medium sweetness, petroleum and honey/ melon in the nose, moderate acidity. Really easy to drink. As a previous note stated, excelkent March with Red curry shrimp. Yum!

A very good but not a great spätlese. Wehlener Sonnenuhr has never been one of my favorite vineyards, so perhaps I am biased, but the orange creamsicle quality is not something I look for in riesling. That said, the age has given the wine some complexity and interest. A bit more acidity would have been nice.

Brought to temp around 45 min before serving. Clear yellow gold. The nose is a mix of honeysuckle, orchard & stone fruit. Layered aromatics which make the glass hard to stop sniffing. Medium bodied, but one which gained weight & intensity as it warmed and breathed. Honeyed melon beautifully balanced with a strong acid backbone. Lush and fruity. A great pair with Thai curry.

(Selbach-Oster Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese) Light canary yellow color; focused sweet lemon and apricot nose; minerally, tart stone fruit palate; medium finish
(SPATLESE Selbach-Oster Wehl-Sonn) 2007 German Dear Friends, This was just confirmed and it's been one of the most difficult 2007's for me to obtain. I think the wonder of the vintage at the Kabinett and Spatlese level has been documented ad nauseum already so I will spare you a repeat. German Riesling continues to provide the finest price/value relationship among the top age-worthy wines of the world but prices are creeping up and the Euro has really hit the US perception that German wine represents value - it still can. That being said, most of this bottling is reserved for the European market and very little makes its way to retail. Without even describing the wine, it is a testament to why Johannes has gained the respect he has. It is taut and pure with a fantastic reflection of site place that should age for years. Johannes considers this one of his 3-4 flagship bottlings and one that defines the vintage and the Selbach-Oster style. It compares favorably to the best wines above Wehlen but the price is among the lowest in the Mosel. You can check prices for JJ Prum's 2007 Wehlener-Sonnenuhr Spatlese (at $40-50) to get an idea of how good of a deal this is. I tucked away an entire case for myself. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for rarity, terrific value and brilliant, confident sense of itself. ONE SHIPMENT ONLY of the this wine directly from he source with perfect provenance: 2007 Selbach-Oster Wehlener-Sonnenuhr Riesling Spatlese EXTREMELY LIMITED Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Germ9330

Oily with plenty of petrol, freshly cut orange, ginger and spice on the nose. Flavors also include orange, stone fruit and pumpkin pie.
