By the bottle (!) at Atrium in Brooklyn. Nose is earthy, slightly roasty, dried cherries, a hint of savory herbs. Palate is exactly what you want from a wine with a bit of bottle age: great balance, juicy red fruit, hints of mushrooms and more savory herbs. Body is fuller than expected, smooth but still present tannins. Beautiful wine in a beautiful spot. Drink it if you got it!

Translucent, well coloured; gamy, sinewy, backed by warm bricks & soft earthiness; supple, with an attractive astringent spine providing vitality; finish shows tell-tale pepperiness & signs of age + drying out, but overall bags of character & intrigue.

Unfiltered, has thrown a substantial sediment. Translucent red in colour. Mineral, slightly medicinal nose. Like a previously tasted example of this varietal from this producer, this has certainly benefited from a couple of years cellaring. Light bodied with bright acidity. Flavours are strong and clean rather than concentrated, with red apples, sharp red berries and a peppery warmth on the lingering finish. As with many Jura wines, a fine match for the food of the region. Another unusual and worthwhile wine from this excellent producer.

sfwine: Wines of the Jura (San Francisco): Riper and more liqueur-like, blue-fruited nose than the Puffeney reds, but with a pleasantly herbal, evergreen counternote. Medium bodied, with some midpalate lift and length from well-integrated oak. Also a bit of astringency that strikes me as being from wood, rather than stems. By way of comparison this is a much bigger, more full-bodied wine than the Puffeney poulsard or pinot noir in this flight, but this is relative, of course. It's still a Jura wine. Seems to be a success for a style that perhaps leans a bit to the international, but that may be the vintage speaking. I'd love to have tasted this wine in a cooler year like 2004. A very good wine that leans strongly toward Burgundy, but is it worth nearly $40?
