Friday Night Double Blind $35-$50 (Bin 75): Dark core, sediment, cloudy, larger red brick rim; soy, raisin, chocolate, dark cherry, raspberry, garrigue with air, some plush modern qualities; very ripe, burnt fruit, spicier back end; another overripe highly rated 2007 that will not live to age 10.
Decanted for 1 hour, although it needs more at this stage. We really enjoy this wine right now for it power and youthfulness, exhibiting classic CdP flavor components. The nose become much more expressive as it opens up. Rich dry dark plums and prune fruit that is most dominant, almost a cherry cola flavor. The dark fruit plays well into the black pepper and earthty middle. A lovely granache dry finish with tannins that are still working themselves out. Sit on this wine for 5+ more years if you can (doubt we can).
The 2007 CdP’s have been drinking fabulously. This one was no exception. Nose of red and dark fruits, a touch of earth. Deep, concentrated layers. Mature dark fruits, earth, leather. Silky, fine tannins complete the perfecta. Delicious.
