  • 2005 Domaine Ehrhart Pinot Auxerrois Val St.-Gregoire (France, Alsace, Alsace AOC). 12.5 pabv. Imported by Robert Kacher Selections; Washingon, DC. Purchased at Dorothy Lane Market Washington Heights, Kettering, OH. $12/750 ml.

Plastic 'cork'-style closure. Brilliant refractive gold of some density.

Funky melon, white peach; above plus white pepper and resin and (to me) perceptible residual sweetness with juicy acid, with tobacco smoke coming in on the clean, almost minty finish. Good value. Drink now. Served with the homemade turkey soup made with the remains of our Thanksgiving family openhouse dinner.

As often happens, Auxerrois vines from good producers can show additional interest above and beyond pure varietal Pinot Blanc, as is the case here.

The next day the wine is more floral in the nose, seemingly drier and more integrated on the palate and finish, and perhaps worth a point more.

  • Some rustic dried apricot and lime on the nose. Lots of papaya and dried apricot on the palate. Lacking in structure but solid.

  • Green apple, full force, nice fleshy fruit, almost candied or sweet cream adn green tea. But I don't buy the sales pitch about Auxerrois. Honey adn tea on the nose. Some RS here. Definately works at $14.
