  • Brought this birthyear bottle to a dinner with friends. Overall this '92 La Pointe really stood the test of time and held its own, against all expectations I might (given the rather horrendous vintage). Fill level is absolutely perfect, well above shoulder (no noticeable difference to new bottles in fact)

The colour of this wine has evolved into some sort of mellow garnet, while still vibrant and opaque, certainly not faded.

Of course typical aged Bordeaux notes dominate the palate with some earthiness, undergrowth and cedar. Some tobacco and leather as well maybe.

Still - again to my surprise - plenty of evolved dark fruit, blackberry, dried figs as well. The fruit really stands its ground and balances out the tertiary aromas, which makes for a lovely vibrant and elegant bouquet. The length is not staggering but certainly sufficient. Very well integrated, soft and velvety tannins.

A smoothly aged bottle, probably a lucky hit but nice to experience. I guess the right bank Merlot-driven wines faired better in this historically challenging vintage.
