Very very good old-world cab. Refined and subtle, with oak predominating over fruit, but everything in impeccable balance. Not the kind of cab that sets my pants on fire, but it's hard not to admire this caliber of winemaking. This was a 375 -- I wish we had had a full bottle!
was excited to see this poured at a party, and a bit disappointed once I tasted it. It was very nice but not exciting; even a little thin in comparison to the Courtney Benham Stags Leap District - an already "light" cabernet also being served. I've heard this described as a "big" wine but for me it was not that at all; rather a refined and slightly oaky wine that didn't pack much punch. That's probably a great style for lots of people but left me wanting a little more.
Fourth of July wine. Ahhh, Joseph Phelps, it is like visiting an old friend. I've been drinking California Bigs lately and coming back to a classic style is like reading your favorite comic book again. This bottle was very good. Super smooth, luscious and silky, with hints of sweet fruit. Knew it was good once I jammed my nose into the glass.
