Tasted by mgl on 9/2/2009 & rated 87 points: Have to agree with most comments - good value for $13. Hard to find a drinkable merlot at this price. A bit tuned off by the brownish tinge to the color, but did not affect the flavorl. Medium body, redcurrant ; not much up front but builds upvery nice midrange and finish. Bit more like a French Bordeaux wth more fruit. Don't know how much longer good to hold since detected a bit of oxidation; might be descending. (475 views)
Tasted by Capt M on 8/14/2009 & rated 84 points: Dark crimson red hue with some transparency and slight brick tint. Lots of raisins on the nose with some heat as well. Also dates come to mind. Medium body with good intensity of fruit, dry, kind of tart finish. Fairly good acidity. Black currant comes to mind, and brandied cherries with cocoa powder. (575 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 8/4/2009 & rated 89 points: Quite good. Even better and more balanced than the last bottle. Medium bodied with nice oak, red fruits and pencil lead. (643 views)
Tasted by TCKM on 7/29/2009 & rated 89 points: Better intergration with this bottle. Enjoyable. Good QPR. (658 views)
Tasted by Vanvino on 7/23/2009 & rated 90 points: Aromas of plum, oak, and vanilla. Mild dark fruit upfront transforming to a slight cinnamon on the mid-palate. Finished with spice and oak. Considering its high alcohol level, it is well balanced. I could barely detect the heat. (723 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 7/7/2009 & rated 88 points: For the price surprisingly delicious and elegant. (656 views)
Tasted by Rich S on 6/26/2009 & rated 88 points: Popped and poured. Dark purple color. Spicy nose with good amounts of ripe dark red fruits. Alcohol is also detectable on both the nose and the palate. This is a big merlot and the 14.7% abv really shows itself but luckily there is enough fruit and tannins to keep things in balance. This wine actually needs some air to open up and will probably integrate a bit more with some additional bottle age. Would rebuy. (881 views)
Tasted by Steve Jones on 6/18/2009 & rated 87 points: Younger than the cab but more forward. rich round merlot rosey flavors. Great QPR. (871 views)
Tasted by mclgreenville on 4/23/2009 & rated 90 points: Love this wine. Burst of cinnamon on the nose and cherries and dark fruit. Nice color and a very reasonable price. Beat the crap out of the 95 Paul Bruno I opened and decanted.

Tasty. Enjoying with a burger and will purchase again. (1483 views)
Tasted by wyssj on 4/19/2009 & rated 85 points: Drank with Tooch. Lots of cherry on the palette, both dark and light. Slightly hot finish that was tempered by some excellent Irish cheese. Would definitely purchase again. (1482 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 4/18/2009 & rated 88 points: Can't go more than 88 on this, although it is a well made win almost with a more european balance to it. Not over extracted, medium bodied at most, but wiith a good sense of balance. Nice. (1484 views)
Tasted by TCKM on 4/14/2009 & rated 88 points: More interesting than my last bottle, but also more disjointed. Nose is somewhat quiet and restrained. Smooth entry with some green vegetables, cherry, spice, vanillin and then black tea on the very end of the finish. Loses points for bitter tannic heat at the back of the palate. Still decent QPR.  Tasted by kietkopelli on 4/8/2009 & rated 89 points: I like this wine as a value play although it doesn't have overwhelming flavors. On the nose it's rich and fruity If I didn't know better I would think it's a new world Syrah. Lots of blueberries, currant, peppers and a hint of dill. The mid pallet is when the CA Merlot really comes into the spotlight. Cherries, chocolate and vanilla comes through and a bit too oaky. Brings back found memories of the late 80's Merlots. I would have missed the tea notes but thanks to llyrsdad I picked it up. Finishes a bit flat for my taste but all and all very serviceable for $12.

Remember, you don't drink the label. (1717 views)
Tasted by LLim on 4/7/2009 & rated 89 points: excellent quality for the price. excellent everyday wine. very approachable, and smooth and good fruit characte. meduium body and some vanilla and oak is present. very drinkable now. (1587 views)
Tasted by pete s. on 4/2/2009: Very good stuff. Consistent with previous notes (89). Red fruit, oak, and a hint of spice. Easy drinking, crowd pleaser. (1639 views)
Tasted by Coupe 60 on 3/29/2009 & rated 88 points: Popped and poured, and had with a sausage and broccoli rabe sandwich, and by itself. Most prominent flavors I pick up in the first glass are sour cherries, a hint of leather. Nice fruit but not over the top. As the bottle is open, I start to get a caramel taste fdrom the oak...Very nicely integrated. This has a little backbone to it. Medium acidity, Medium tannins...Drank very easily. Mrs. Coupe liked it as well

I did not get the chocolate that others mentioned, but I do see the resemblance to a Right Bank Bordeaux. Very solid effort for the <$10 that I paid on sale for this...Would buy again... (1862 views)
Tasted by danseng on 3/28/2009 & rated 88 points: Like everyone else says, very good for the price. Earthy with just enough fruit to make it more enjoyable than most French wines. Great bargain. (1794 views)
Tasted by llyrsdad on 3/25/2009 & rated 88 points: Cherry, chocolate and tea flavors with a slightly grippy tannic edge that is a little bitter. Went well with a spicy fresh tomato and Italian sausage pasta. (1911 views)
Tasted by davemj on 3/23/2009 & rated 90 points: The color and aroma is very straightforward. As with previous tastings, this is a fantastic MERLOT for a wide variety of dishes. We had this with the stew from Sat night, 3/21

Nose of dark fruit, leather. Good acidity from a fruit component. Light color, not too dark. (2051 views)
Tasted by JeremyQ on 3/14/2009 & rated 90 points: Very bordeaux like. Not at all like a Californian merlot. I like this - not a fruit bomb with a nice flavour profile and very smooth for its age. Could have been easily mistaken for a right bank Bordeaux. An excellent QPR. (2153 views)
Tasted by Jameuz on 3/12/2009 & rated 89 points: This was way better than I thought it would be for the price. It had more complexity than most of the wine you get at this price point. It had nice tannins that were firmly wrapped around some great fruit which coated the palate. The mouth feel was nice also. This isn't a thin wine and represents merlot very well especially for the price. (2133 views)

(Warnke Cellars Napa Merlot) #2; COLOR-dark; NOSE-no notes; TASTE-Brandon Warnke says, "smooth; some upfront bright cherry upfront; some cherry on the mid-palate; some minerality"; a little Cabernet in the blend gives it some backbone, structure & complexity of a really good St. Emilion right bank wine; this is a very good merlot; GV-No Score  No Score points

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in almost 10 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
