  • This pours medium garnet in the glass, lightly cloudy. Very little bricking with some pink toward the rim. Some suspended sediment, so I suspect not perfectly handled by the restaurant service staff who double decanted it. The nose isn’t massively expressive but what shows is a generally enjoyable profile. The nose is of cassis, dried black currants, dried blueberries, a touch of prune, slate, soy sauce, animal fur, worn leather, nori, tar, perfume, and fresh ginger waft gently. The palate is fresh on entry replaying the generally darker skewing fruit. Tannin is medium and acid is medium plus. The finish turns a tad muddy with vague touches of prune along side beef broth and soy sauce. All in all this is doing okay, but a tad below expectations. There are glimpses of lovely complexity on the nose that get significantly better as this wine sees more air, yet the palate is a tad muddy, tarry, structured, and veers just a touch into over ripeness.

  • Just as good as my prior bottle a while back, but different. More leather, more spice, more supple and still time in hand for this wine. It's amazing that a $13 bottle (at the time) can be so good 8 years down the road. It's a credit to Eric Texier and a credit to Brezeme.

  • Time has been kind to this wine. When I first had it I was always on the edge as to whether it had too much acidity for its own good. Now 4 years on I am fairly well satisfied that it had exactly enough acidity for its own good. Pepper, warm herb and grilled meat aromas are knit well together, and follow through on the palate where the wine picks up earthy nuances that complement the initial aromas and flavors. It's really a fantastic value, and I wish I had held onto more of this vintage, as it's drinking very well right now. It gives me faith to hold the 2008 for longer than I had planned.

  • I rarely describe a red wine as racy and mean it as a compliment, but that's is exactly what I will do for the '06 Brézème. It has ample fruit for its structure, yet this wine remains all about the acidity. It wakens a sleepy palate. Very good and very good QPR.

  • Well made, but nothing too exciting.

Rockss and Fruit

(Eric Texier Cotes-du-Rhone-Brezeme) This was very ripe with classic Syrah aromas of games, olives, black fruits, and wet earth. The palate was very velvety with high acid that hit all the right places. Fruit on the finish was sweet, but not too sweet, and had lovely persistence. Focused, very drinkable and lovely wine.
