  • Wine pulled for my cellar where the wine rested since purchase.

The ullage was good with no leakage, but cork seemed a bit soft. Very much in need of decanting, leaving nearly the entire interior of the bottle coated with dark sedimentation. (For some reason, I like to see sediment coating the bottle as that tells me, among other things, that the wine has rested well.) Severed throughout the day in the decanter with stopper.

This wine is made from a blend of four Teinturiers (grape varieties with colored juice) from the estate vineyard and the neighboring Pagani Ranch. It is predominantly Alicante Bouschet blended with Lenoir, Grand Noir and Petite Bouschet.

Color remains a very dark red, giving no indication that the wine was 15 years old. In fact, the wine looks young, which is amazing; however, the classic purple hues of young AB are no longer present. Nose and palate of leather, cherry, tea and acidic blackberry. The wine is very big and the richness is mature rather than youthful. No chocolate or dark floral notes (think rose) were found in the glass, but again, this is a 2007. Monolithic. Lastly, 2007 was an exceptional year for Sonoma Zinfandels, Syrahs, and Teinturiers.

Wish this wine was still produced.

  • ok wine but a bit tedious to drink. Heavily sedimented. Very dark purple, nose of jam and something funky I couldn't quite place. Very tart on the palette with jammy dark fruits. The acid and tannins both didn't seem well integrated otherwise this could have rated higher. I drank right out of the bottle, taking my time to let my glass breathe as I drank it. It never really opened up. It may be that more time in the decanter could have made this really click. I will report back tomorrow if things improve. Night 2: somewhat improved but still a wine that takes some dedication to drink. I had half a glass after opening and actually had to go take some tums because it wreaked havoc on my stomach. But with food I could see getting used to this- its an acquired taste.

  • Nose like welches grape jelly. Still a bit tannic (yet balanced), nice rounded flavor with a bit of tree vine at the back pallet
