  Cheval Blanc Vertical ‘Chez Elke’ (Hotel Hohenzollern, Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler): Out of a pristine Vandermeulen Bottling. Vasa museum, tomato puree, dried porcini, fantastic balance between acidity and richness. Such a creamy texture on the palate with tons of umami.

  Gorgeous full-bodied color and a fantastic nose reminiscent of dried porcini mushrooms. Strongly supported by nice acidity prolonging the finish. Truly truly gorgeous vandermeulen bottle.

  The patina of age is perfect here, giving the wine a stunning set of aromatics to accompany the wave of raspberry, cherry, kirsch and herbs. There is still depth, concentration and focus, with a bit of harshness to tannins, as to be expected from the excruciatingly tannic vintage, yet that does not stop you from all the pleasure each sniff, swirl and sip bring to this 91 year old wine.
