| | Tasted by steffenpelz on 7/4/2008: 4th of July Blowout (Chez Rick): For me, the star of the whites. Amazingly rounded and polished with a slightly aged nose and palate, but what a treat. Somehow, this pulls of the plushness and softness of a CA chard with the minerality and raciness of a Loire white. (671 views) |
| | Tasted by french16 on 4/20/2008 & rated 88 points: Much better than previous bottle, more balanced. Lots of oak on the nose but looked better integrated than previous bottle. Med to full body, very lemony mixed with some oak. Interesting but lacks complexity. Would not pay the normal $65 retail price (paid $25). (674 views) |

| | Tasted by french16 on 10/2/2007 & rated 86 points: Clear, yellow core with clear rim. Medium+ aromatics with a lot of cooked fruits such as cooked apple, pear, spices (nutmeg). Low acidity, flat, some heat. Not as dense as the nose would suggest. Apple and pear with spices on the finish. This wine wants to be rich and in your face - Don't worth the $65 retail price and I'm glad I didn't pay as much. Drink now (847 views) |

| | Tasted by teekayfl on 11/6/2006 & rated 86 points: Sparling clear/straw optic. Reserved nose showing hints ofcitrus and honey. On the palate, grapefruit and honey, nice acidity; body greatly richer than a straight sauvignon blanc from Loire valley. Shortish finish. Overall a decent wine but vaguely unsatisfying. I recognize that 2000 was not a great vintage for white bordeaux, but this wine is at a much lower level than others tasted recently. $38 at retail. To borrow Jim Cowan's phrase, I would not buy it again at that price.....Would be reasonable around $20. Maybe.
White bordeaux must just be a very difficult wine to produce; the difference in quality between the top 1-3 (depending on vintage) and all the rest seems always to be profound. Smith Haut Lafite remains my benchmark for affordable bordeaux blanc and Haut Brion Blanc is of course, the Yquem of dry white bordeaux. (1164 views) |
| | Tasted by gasman on 1/6/2006 & rated 88 points: Pleasant wine with slight nose and palate of grapefruit. Good acidity and mouth feel. Just didn't light me up. Maybe the next bottle will be better. (1562 views) |
