A dominant presence of slate/stone in this bottle. Very intriguing and eager to check in on this characteristic with the next bottle. Lip smacking fruits come through to make the experience tons of fun. Bottle likely hitting prime.
This has always been a special Saxum for me since it's the first Justin Smith wine I ever tried 7 years ago. It has aged gracefully and really opened up after hours in the decanter. Opened, decanted and consumed over 7 hours and it kept getting better. It's much more restrained than in its youth, however, tts still spectacular. Nose of Flowers and berries with tastes of plum, cherries, blackberries. An incredibly long finish with quite a strong silky lingering mouthfeel and no sign of alcohol at all. So glad I have more.
Juicy. Settled in nicely after an hour+ of air. full-on blackberries which dominates but hints of pepper and decent concentration. The first sip right after opening was underwhelming so give it a bit of time. You would drain soooo many liters of this at a barbeque!
