This wine took me a bit by surprise. A friend had effused its virtue to me for 6 months before I gave in and drank one with him. I've always had more hits than misses with K Vintners but the misses always seem to lurk more prominent in your mind. Enough babbling from me, on to the wine. Gorgeous deep ruby purple color dominated by whiffs of blackberries and dark cherries on the nose seemingly daring you to snort it. After some seriously concerted swirling, woodsmoke and a distant minerality could be picked up. The palate mirrors the nose with extracted blackberries taking center stage but reigned in by herbs and a little bit of bacon. No real tannins to speak of, just lush streamlined fruit that left a hefty yet delicious finish. 92 pts.

K’s can be a hit or miss proposition with me, but this coin toss clearly landed on heads and I’ll elect to receive the football thank you very much. My second go round with the 05 Deal, and I must say, this competes with anything in the K syrah portfolio, and please take note, this is priced in the middle tier. Opulent yet intellectual traits battle it out on the nose, offering rich blackberry scents one moment, sleek, linear, mineral and olive goodies the next. The palate continues this pleasing composition, very in dark color, and a good 30-40 second finish. The track record is too irregular for my budget strapped syrah dollar to continue buying a lot of K wines goings forward, but this was $38 very well spent.

Drank this bottle with Charles Smith and my friends. Much more fun hearing him describe the wine than if I had. Very big bouquet...French-like, Cote d'Or...drinking great right now. Paired with smoked pulled pork. Fabulous.

Showing very nicely and easy drinking. Makes you think of France...nice bacon thoughts, silky fruit and approachable fruit. I recommend it.
