I had this 6 months ago and it was quite tight. Tonight this is just singing: highly aromatic with bacon, pine/juniper and tar mingling with rich (but fresh) blueberry over a campfire tone. Pleasantly reductive, rich and textured on the palate with good length. Young, but deliciously drinkable.
It doesn't get much better than this for syrah (or for wine, for that matter!). Completely opaque and dark. Pronounced nose of leather, tobacco, meat, smoke, quite complex. Full-bodied flavors, but acid, fruit and tannin perfectly balanced. Just a bit of "bite" back of the tongue. Very long aftertaste with some anise. Perfectly drinkable, but should last for years. Ric
Decanted and drank over 2 days. Feel like it could use a few more years, but overall this is as well made as it gets for Syrah in my opinion. Big Cayuse style, olives, funk, meat, savory...smooth and dark fruits deep...needs to develop secondary characteristics a bit more maybe? Anyway, I could drink this all day.

(Cayuse Vineyards Armada Vineyard Syrah Bottle Sample Walla Walla Valley) Holy smokes! Full on black pepper along with violets and game on a nose that is significantly more evolved due to the extra year of bottle age. A persistent intensity on the palate with crazy game tastes. Rich without being fruity. 100% Syrah. 14.2% alcohol. To be released in 2010.
