  • One hour decant, two would have been even better. Watch out for the sediment. Lots of it. Tannin is almost all fully resolved. The is a fully integrated Cali Cab with an extremely smooth mouth feel but rustic flavors. A mixture of dark fruit and smooth spice. Smooth spice? That makes no sense, but it was the balance that caused the spice to add flavor but not bite. Does not have the power of a young Scholium red but instead shows off what age can do with perfectly ripe, not over-ripe grapes. Moderate finish. Sadly, IIRC, Abe said that the Margit's vineyard was ripped up the following year or a few years later, so this wine will not be made again. This wine has matured very well since my last note more than a decade ago.

  • Opened without reading my note from 6 years ago. This is painfully intense on opening. It needs air time. It barely resembles wine right after pulling the cork. An alcoholic Port driven stew. However, even after 15 minutes or so, this started coming together. A few hours later, this is in a good spot. It's a big wine. While I forget the final blend, this sure feels like a Rhone driven blend with blood, saline, lush dark fruit, a smoky note. Yet its Cabernet (mostly). The Cab structure is there but this is a bruiser of a wine. Acidity balances things out a little. Saving a a glass for tomorrow to check in after 24 hours ...

  • Incredible intensity. A bit funky nose. Much better than in 2011. Dark and dense.

  • Open for 2 hours.
Nice dark purple color. Black pepper, a kind of blood orange on the nose. Hints of Watermelon, soy sauce and a bit of sour cherry. Cinnamon, ripe cherry and hints of bitter chocolate on the palette. Alcohol is a bit high for my taste. Acid is a bit high and tannins are very strong. Still a very good wine, but probably better with more time. Would like to try again in the future.

  • Great stuff. Structured and complex. I kept coming back to this all night.
