Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.5 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 38 notes)

Tasted by winopops3 on 2/6/2010 & rated 89 points: Decanted and consumed over 3 hours. Black cherry, light oak, leather. Lacks complexity, tannins not yet integrated. Hopefully this will get better with more bottle time. (318 views)
Tasted by rharlow on 2/4/2010 & rated 92 points: wonderful nose - a textbook Cali Cab Sav. the pallet was a little bit lighter than expected, but still delicious. dark fruit, rich flavors. delicious! (487 views)
Tasted by JOliver on 2/2/2010 & rated 92 points: Nose: wonderful dark fruit immediately coming through on the nose. strong backbone of leather and bandage. Incredibly rich and earthy on the nose as well. Pencil shavings, green pepper and a bit of dustiness all coming through as the wine opens up. Not an overly complex wine but interesting enough. Very nice mouthfeel, a little bit light for the style but it works . Lots of leather, cedar, green pepper, black currant and a bit of cranberry immediately covering my palate. Perfect tannins though finish is not overly long. Oak is present but not overpowering. A very drinkable wine and it is ready now as far as im concerned. (679 views)
Tasted by vino vidi vici on 1/25/2010 & rated 89 points: Fruit was a bit muted, not as bright as expected. Smooth flavors up front, but then flattened out too early. Nice, but was glad I didn't pay the original retail price of $60 (got it for $27 instead). (789 views)
Tasted by pete s. on 1/22/2010 & rated 91 points: Elegant nose full of deep black currant, blackberry, and a hint of anise. Velvety moutfeel shows flavors of dark berries, toasty oak, baking spice and a hint of menthol. Nice complexity on the palate. Firm, dusty tannins evident on the back end with med-high acid. Nice mix of oak and cocoa on the structured finish. Solid. (666 views)
Tasted by mbenz on 1/7/2010 & rated 86 points: Minimal nose. Mouthfeel quite thin. Poor finish, almost a little vinegary. Overall, just a mediocre effort for a Napa cab. One can do much better in this price range. The bottle went unfinished. (1156 views)
Tasted by winosis3 on 1/3/2010 & rated 91 points: Opened and drank. Very enjoyable. Deep garnet color, rich texture. Subtle spicy aromas. Nice legs. Almost velvety on the tongue. Yum scale 4. (1216 views)
Tasted by gee0001 on 1/1/2010 & rated 93 points: This is an excellent wine that gets better if allowed to breathe a bit. The cork was tight and air had clearly not infiltrated the bottle. There is an inky darkness to the color. The nose is alive. Leather hit me first followed by good earth and tight fruit. Given a short time the aromas of dark berries reveal themselves. You won't be disappointed with the flavors and subtle changes in the wine. Again, big fruit, berries, earth, and just a hint of good moss early (it went away with decanting). The wine is not overly complex but does change. It shows a good balance. Tannins are evident upon opening and drinking through the finish. The wine should age nicely. Very happy with the purchase.  Tasted by Claretjugornot on 12/27/2009 & rated 87 points: Nose is vanilla and dark fruits. Taste is blueberry and blackberry jam - some black olive. Flabby, very flabby... finishes dry, the mouthfeel is thick, but no sensation on the palate. OAK is everywhere. You can see why people would like with all the fruit, but no substance or depth and leaves you wanting something more after the early tingly bits... Pam Anderson comes to mind. Xmas gift, but the other two bottles are the stars (Altamura and Justin Isosceles) 87 JDM. (1300 views)
Tasted by brewking on 12/26/2009 & rated 92 points: (858 views)
Tasted by kgh on 12/2/2009 & rated 92 points: Nice bouquet, with dark fruit, spice, and wood notes. Opened up one hour after pulling the cork, and definitely got better. (1802 views)
Tasted by whynblog on 11/29/2009 & rated 91 points: Still young with a big tannic structure. It will soften over time. Needs some time in the decanter for now. Big fruit flavors of currant and blueberry. Mineral edge on the long finish. More at by blog http://encompasswine.wordpress.com/ (1856 views)
Tasted by ting_rob on 11/20/2009 & rated 91 points: Second bottle. Youthful - may improve. Showing well - primary and a little tight. Nice. (1989 views)
Tasted by knlowery on 11/14/2009 & rated 92 points: nice nose, green pepper on both nose and palette. Fruit on the front and strong flavor through the mid palette and a long finish. Earthy quality on the palette great with the pot roast that we served (2034 views)
Tasted by WineForRob on 11/12/2009 & rated 91 points: Drank after 99 Abreu so this wasnt really fair but it was still delicious. Somewhat primary with cherry cola flavors and some oak. Nice mouth feel with soft lush tannins and a nice finish. (2169 views)
Tasted by East of Napa on 11/12/2009 & rated 90 points: Real nice wine that I drank over two nights. lots of berries and smooth finish. Just got 6 more and am glad we did. Looking forward to the wine club deliveries. (2148 views)
Tasted by CSM on 11/7/2009 & rated 90 points: Initially showed no fruit at all, so I decanted for 2 hours. Nose showed red currant, raspberry, cedar and bittersweet chocolate. Palate showed raspberry, red currant, smoke and a bit of dark chocolate. Finish was a bit hot and tannic which prevented this from scoring higher, but that should come together in time, so this should improve. (2095 views)
Tasted by Weston3220 on 10/29/2009 & rated 92 points: Taste Napa Valley [Vancouver, Canada] (Fairmont Hotel, Waterfront): A: Rich and Dark
T: Red Fruit Balanced, Really Nice, Big Masculine but also Feminine a really interesting balance. Big Chewy Tannins tho (2274 views)
Tasted by stretchmk on 10/11/2009 & rated 91 points: Very true as a typical Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon with deep dark purple color. Lots of complexity on the nose, fruit of course, but some cinnamon and asian spices with a leather background. The nose jumps out of the bottle and the glass. Plenty of dark fruit. The oak is almost not noticeable, fully and successfully integrated. Everything is balanced. Would score higher if there was a little more weight on the mouthfeel, which also affects the refined, but relatively short finish. Altogether a treat of a well made wine that is slightly lighter than expected (2509 views)

Tasted by peeks13 on 10/7/2009 & rated 91 points: A Night of Classic Cabernet (9/23/2009) (Wine Discount Center Barrington): Great cocoa accents. If you can get on sale when they clear out for the new vintages then do it. (2675 views)
 Tasted by J-Sho on 10/1/2009 & rated 92 points: (1889 views)
Tasted by pvd420 on 8/10/2009 & rated 91 points: sleek and smooth, nice density without being too heavy (2944 views)
Tasted by Zinny on 6/21/2009: Nose of vanilla, dark berries, mocha and smoke. Creamy mouthfeel but not overbearing. Good acidity and very nice ripeness level to the fruit - not too much, not too little. This is well priced (for Napa). Would consider buying a few more. (3149 views)

Producer Notes The 2006 Cabernet lights up out of the bottle with a precocious bouquet of exotic spices and old leather. Given a moment to rest, aromas of sweet marjoram, rose oil, cardamom and blackcurrant jam evolve into exceptionally sweet floral notes of star jasmine and a touch of trumpet vine. Initial flavors of cherry deepen as fine tannins expand and unfold. Dark stone fruits mix and integrate with sweet tannins and fleshy acidity, giving way to a persimmon inspired finish that coats the mouth. Analysis Composition: 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 2% Malbec Alcohol: 15.2% Bottled: June 2008 Release: October 2008 Production: 8,853 Cases

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in almost 10 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
