(Taylor Quinta de Vargelles (375 ml)) #2; COLOR-very dark; NOSE-a little chalk/sawdust aspect; an underlying mustard like sensation; PALATE-more approachable than I expected; the tannins are hidden by this almost reduced licorice meets black mulberries; really interesting; it's VERY viscous; very smooth; on the back-end, I'm catching a little caramel; really good complexity; a cocoa component coming through; well made; I like the fruit and the backbone; has big upside potential, but very approachable now; NM-92; GV-90

Surprisingly good and young, actually it was better on day 2. Fine energy and power, with licorice and black fruit and a long finish with nice tannins. 93+

Visit to Taylor’s (Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal): More pure dark fruit and less raisiny than the Terra Freita. Sweet, round, chocolatey with excellent acidity, and more backward, less ready. I really liked the balance of this wine, and it was my favorite today.
