Just a warm cozy blanket of red currant that gets herb-infused as the night moves on. I'd say almost perfect for what it is (cab-based blend). Probably another couple years at this stage, and still more time after that if you like it softer. This was a real treat.

New World Blind Tasting Group $40+ (Bin 75): Black core with thin dull maroon rim; glycerin, menthol, black fruit, super ripe, showing some age, leather; large scaled, tannic, blackberry, mint, not gritty tannin but boatloads of fine tannin, tobacco, big, grilled green peppers; very different from the 2003 just before.

Compared side-by-side with Conn Valley Cabernet Sauvignon also from 2005. This wine was still a deep ruby to the rim. More so than the 100% cab. Still a powerful wine despite quite a bit of sediment. Decanted 2 hours and still not fully opened up. Tanins were as firm as though the wine was a 2010, yet rounded. The finish was long. The complex mixture of dark fruit promises that this wine will cellar for another 15 years easily.
