  • From magnum, during a birthday party. From memory.
In perfect shape, still young and with no sign of premox. In fact, this drunk very well on day 2 also, showing very little degradation, if at all.
Complexity and depth, both on the nose and the palate. Very long finish, with citrus fruit intertwined with a mineral spine. Not the most refined or subtle, but with lots of substance and many layers of flavor. A rewarding experience.
PS: paired with sushi, which perhaps was not quite ideal.

  • A change to Christmas plans meant that this was finally cracked with Roast Chicken, boiled spuds and salad with dinner guests. It stood up admirably and exhibited the aromas and flavours that I recollect from my first encounter - muted fruit, toasted nuts, honey, slight bacon, butter...the bottle, rather disappointingly, seemed to evaporate before our eyes.

  • Impromptu lunch with B&E 2 (My place, parramatta, sydney): From Coravin. Zesty and still fresh but a little lighter that my earlier recollection. Not sure it's dealing well with the needle. Hmm.

  • From Coravin. I grabbed this last time I was at the storage as part of my selection for Christmas day and it looked cloudy and messy with a fair amount of throw. No one want's disappointment on the 25th so I thought I'd Coravin a tiny pour (25ml) to make sure it's not flawed. Good news. It's not flawed. Pale gold. Medium minus aromas of toasted nuts, butter, muted stone fruits and lemony hints, a slightly dusty quality, sweet spice, cedar, almost honey roast smoked bacon here as well. Lots' going on for the nose. In the mouth the wine is zesty, with citric undertones married to muted butter, toast and tiny honey hints...it's quite linear on the palate but just persists forever. Superb. Roll on Xmas day...

  • Light gold.
Very complex vegetal bouquet, broccoli and cauliflower with honey.
Fruity but quite dry, youthful, loads of complexity, great length, deserves so much more time in the cellar.
