Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.9 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 10 notes)

Tasted by Anonymous on 12/1/2008 & rated 91 points: Big alcohol was right. The nose didn't show up initially but this was a nice bottle that went fast with friends. It had a nice balanced profile with deep, dark fruit tastes. (256 views)
Tasted by NotNYC on 11/7/2008: really rough. simply unappetizing.dud

Okay here's a surprise - vacu'd and let this sit on the counter for a week+. Almost tossed. But a taste proved to be much different than before. So altho it started hot as a Bic lighter, with the roast chicken and gravy it flowered into a pretty damn drinkable wine. Just slightly oxidized but who'da thunk a week on the counter would help?  Tasted by NotNYC on 7/4/2008 & rated 90 points: Uh Huh..coming in respectable with restrained tannins and fruit leaving behind a very nice taste of why to let this sleep. Smooth soft nose, velvet entry yet a bit hollow and disappointing, as you hope for a fuller flow. But the weight and the beauty win over. no dry or raisin notes. Yum! (281 views)
Tasted by Jody Smith on 4/28/2008 & rated 91 points: Not for the faint hearted. A dark, brooding beast possessing surprising acidity given it’s uber-ripeness. I was expecting the red fruit typical of dry creek, but this wine filled the air with blackberry jam as it went into the decanter. In glass two hours later, it was still tight as a drum and giving very little in way of aroma. Densely packed, I was sure this would give more in time, but over the course of 5 hours, it didn’t evolve much. Nonetheless, the briary black raspberry and crushed peppercorn was enjoyable, and ample tannin helped the flavors to hang on. This one’s got a mouth filling load of everything – fruit, alcohol, tannin and acid. It’s balanced, but as precariously as a circus elephant riding on a clown car. This one was a fun drink in typical Turley hedonistic fashion. If you like aged zins, you’re almost there. If you prefer the fruity exuberance of youth, your window may have passed, although given the tannin load, you may have never had a chance… Prefer something in between? Drink up! (482 views)
Tasted by Tejano on 1/7/2008 & rated 90 points: Dark rich color of purple, and a hesitant nose on opening that was almost medicinal as was the first taste...but it opened up with time to show more concentration and layers of personality on the nose and the palate. A condensed mouthfeel that was firm and lingering...went well with a spicey homemade chili of buffalo meat. (592 views)
Tasted by mlgold2b on 3/3/2007 & rated 94 points: Rich and extracted, well balanced considering its whopping alcohol content. (1073 views)
Tasted by rharl on 2/21/2007 & rated 88 points: Didn't care for the nose, a bit artificial... taste was enjoyable, unsure what will happen with more age. (950 views)
Tasted by jefstar on 12/22/2006: Very fruity with a long finish of strawberry. Enjoyed with Lou at [re Christmas. (942 views)
Tasted by Winetex on 7/22/2006: Probably 88-89 but the dessert overpowered this Turley zin. I did not think this was possible however the chocolate mocha cheescake did a number on it. Big alcohol in this one. (1078 views)

California is one of the most diverse wine regions in the world, with almost 100 grape varieties grown in almost 10 viticultural areas, including dozens of different microclimates and soil types, as well as a very individualistic set of winemakers, many with international experience, which adds to and deepens that diversity.
