Dinner at Chengdu Impression (Chicago, IL): Shows a little bit of oxidation, even if the acidity of the vintage is clearly on display here. Somewhat angular and disjoint, and the magic of Gerard Potel doesn't seem to come through here. Likely not a totally sound bottle, made even less compelling with Sichuan food.
As previous note, opened at 3pm for dinner had to double decant at 5 pm and at dinner this was still initially closed but opened up over the next 2 hours. Beautiful wine with a typical 96 structure. Last of the potel vintages.

I have nothing to add or change to finediningnyc's note, which describes this wine perfectly. This is the bottling with Gérard Potel's signature on the left upper corner, indicating that it was bottled by his son, Nicolas, in early 1998 (as opposed to those without the signature, which were bottled by the new owner, Landanger). Cellared since original release.

The last vintage from the master Gerard Potel and what a lovely bottle it was. Fresh, elegant, floral and perfectly mature, though with plenty of life left, and the perfect balance of tertiary expression and fruit purity. Pousse d’or with age rarely disappoints.

Dried flower aromatics, entering tertiary evolution. Balanced, graceful.
