Browning; gruff, gravy granules, dried meat, pinched; drying out, there's a softening on mid palate, with savoury notes; but attenuated finish. Clearly on downslope.

This was my favorite at a Sesti tasting 10 years ago and very pleased to see it is still healthy and at least as good as then. He makes Sangiovese taste like Sangiovese should and the elegance and acidity are still very good. Nice length and complexity and just a delight. Prefect now and should it hold for another five years.

The second bottle was right on for a 17 year old Brunello normalé. Deep and earthy with black cherry and leather notes. A little brown to the edge and not the wonder my first bottle was, but an enjoyment and relief after the first bottle tonight was corked. I see no reason to hold these, just pull out a steak and a corkscrew and eat/drink up.

On the downside of peak drinking period, while still enjoyable, showed less depth and slightly oxidized compared to the 3/22/10 bottle.
