  • 30 min decant. Very deep dark ruby magenta color. Mushroom, black olive, date, walnut, teriyaki, and subtle toffee on the aged nose. Smooth, very dry palate. Firm, full tannins on the medium long finish.

Past its prime for my palate, but beautiful nonetheless. Thank you Mark1NPT for sharing this fun bottle.

  • Popped while visiting Jaime and Melissa.....30 minutes in fridge. Deep, dark color that belies the age of this wine. This could pass for a '16 wine, not an '06 in color. Black olive, walnut, subtle toffee on the nose. The wine is full bodied and impressive, again especially for its age. A slight herbal component like maybe this was fermented whole cluster? Black plum fruit on the palate, maybe a hint of aging raisin, but just a hint. Still some drying to the tannins and matching acidity. This may have a a few years left but it's drinking beautifully right now. I'd be hard pressed to wait longer on these. Just a dense, flavorful wine that was quite a surprise after the letdown of the '13 Merlot from last night. Never degraded over the 4 hours it was consumed, just wonderful...maybe the WOTN for me and Melissa? Not for Jaime and Carol....lol.

  • From well stored magnum. Well part it’s prime, it’s barely drinkable. Plum purée. I’ve had many an 01 $& 02 as recently as last year. Bought this from HA, no cork issues, fill into the neck, no oxidation, no leakage. No clue why this is tasting so old, but I consider it expired. Down the drain it goes.

  • True to its cult style, a massively extracted, pitch black KE with purple rim. Decanted for 2 hours and needed it as PnP was pretty tight.
Wonderful nose of bright cassis, slate, and smoked meats. Similar notes on the palate, with hints of dried herbs and black pepper. Full-bodied and dry with dense, powerful, but not sweet fruit. With supple but ever-present tannins and medium+ acidity, blind I would have guessed 2010 Pauillac (Lynch-Bage or Pichon Lalande). Still has a few years left.
