  • A blend of Sangiovese (80%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) and Merlot (10%). 13% alcohol.

Somewhat developed, figgy-reddish color with a pretty wide, pale orange rim. Dry, savory and classically styled nose with vibrant and nicely developed aromas of licorice, dusty earth, sour cherries, some animal and a mature hint of wizened dark fruits. The wine is medium-bodied, firm and tangy on the palate with pure and intense flavors of dried dark cherries, sour cherry bitterness, some sour plums, a little bit of fresh blackcurrant, a hint of redcurrant and a touch of blood. The wine is pretty structured with its high acidity and firm, moderately grippy tannins. The finish is mouthdrying and grippy with pronounced tannic astringency and intense, dry flavors of sour cherries, quite bitter spices, some tart cranberries and a gamey hint of blood.

A very sophisticated and dead-serious "Super-Tuscan" that is basically like any well-made Chianti Classico. Still showing remarkable freshness and vibrancy, despite its 16 years of age, with very grippy tannic structure and tightly-knit texture. Most likely will develop for some years and keep good for at least a decade more. great stuff, although requires food to soften up the grippy tannins. Highly recommended.

  • Deep red even after all these years. Very elegant. Classy taste of dusty cherries, with hints of Tuscan herbs. Medium-bodied with fatness as well as smoothet acidity. Gentle and elegant oak. This Macchiole is no more produced. This is one of the few bottles left. Honoured to have the chance to taste it. Now I know why Le Macchiole has such a high reputaion also in "entry-level" wines. 92+++. Unparalleled QPR at 20 eur

  • Dark red. chocolate and raspberry, spicey and resolved. A very good wine but pretty close to the end. Excellent on this night.

  • Medium red. Throwed a fair bit of sediment. Spicey red fruit, with a hint of rubber. Lter that blew off and there was this great orange zest and red fruit nose. Very nice flavours and a dry finish.
