Had this wine on two day. Poured 1/2 bottle into a Platypus, removed air, and sealed. Left in wine cellar. The other 1/2 bottle was consumed on day 1. It was fruit forward with mushroom and earthy notes. A nice wine, but it just wasn’t 'all there’. It didn't impress. I didn't take formal notes.
Plan was to have the other 1/2 bottle the next night. Didn’t happen. Then the following night. Didn’t happen. Night 4 was to be the night, and wow, what a night!
The bouquet lost some of it’s big red fruit and was more blue fruit with intense floral and glycerin notes. Alcohol was a bit hot on the nose, but it didn’t detract. The palate was deep and rich. Big earthy flavors with a core of plum and black cherry. Ripping acidity balanced the big flavors. Oak treatment integrated beautifully. It somehow reminds me of a BdM, but modern. Delicious.
Update: 80 minutes later, I poured the second glass. This had the benefit of opening-up a little more than the first. The bouquet is intense dried roses with blue fruit in the background. The palate remained unchanged.
Better on day 2. Red & black currant with cedar and spice on the nose. The palate largely matches, with red fruit & spice coming from noticeable oak influence. Balanced overall, though, with medium acidity/tannins/finish.
