  • Clear medium garnet, quite a light Zin. Nose of strawberry/blackberry, gooseberry, touch of oak. In the mouth, decent balance, slightly tart. Overall, not very much fruit, but drinkable. Good value.

  • Vintners Wine Market (Fort Mason, San Francisco): Simple and good for the price.

  • Poured through the Vinturi. Color is brownish garnet. Clear rim. Not very zinfandelly. Legs were noticable, but faster than Carl Lewis on Meth. Nose was strawberries and spice. Interesting, but not particularlly great. Body is light, but hot. 14.4%, but feels more like 18% Not well intergrated at all. Good dark fruit and spice mostly up front. Plum is one of the dominant flavors, but this just isn't coming together. Tannins are present and firm, but not green, and there is enough acid bite to give the impression that this COULD come together at some point. The finish is short, but there is an odd taste that hangs on, like a grape skin for a ripe red flame. Something like that. This isn't bad wine. It isn't particularly great wine either. Novices will like it for the cool label and the clear strawberry nose. A good office party wine - it won't embarrass you, and you can continue to hide your obsession with really killer wine. Two hours in, and some open bottle magic is happening. Nothing that changes the score, but this has softened enough to feel better, and some cigar is showing up. We'll see...
